It was late.
I was sitting at the end of the bar of what used to be 'The Pink Squirrel Bar & Piano Lounge', just down a few blocks from Hollywood and Vine. Not that it was 'The Pink' or 'The Squirrel' anymore.
Sure, a few of the older regulars, being of that persuasion, still call the bar their own, but for the most part, excluding special event days, the place is pretty much a mix of what you'll find locally. Well, more regulars, not transients, like up the block and around the corner bar near the Hollywood Bus Station.
The Barkeep slash Owner was slowly, nostalgically, returning, some might say 'resurrecting', the establishment back to its original 1940's 'Casablanca' feel.
The hand carved dark with age mahogany long bar and most of the bar mirrors were original.
My usual place, not an Aces and Eights seat, at the end of the bar remained unchanged. That is, an unobstructed view of the front door, a close at hand Fire Exit off to the side, and my body blocking my weapon side view from the Lounge.
I was ignoring Barkeep's monologue about how unfair it was that he couldn't return the name of his establishment back to its original, “Ricky's Place”. Something about intellectual property rights.
